Starting Up Modern Software Development!

Huhhuh, as the Finns say.

If you're reading this post it means that Modern Software Development or Overscale Solutions as a company has piqued your interest. Let me explain a bit about what we're actually all about..

First, some background: Almost a year has passed since a series of decisions were made. The outcome? You're looking at it, or at least a part of it. Overscale Solutions Oy was founded with the aim of modernizing the software development industry. First we would take over Finland, next Europe and finally the whole world. Kind of the traditional story with startups, right?

The story until now is anything but traditional, let me tell you that. Maybe I will open it up a bit more one day, or maybe not... Here in this first post, I will focus on explaining what modern software development actually means:

We create solutions for businesses to tackle their business challenges. This means that what we set out to do is either create savings or add to the margins for the customer, and we can validate that. This happens by:

1. Mapping the business challenge that needs to be solved. Whether the challenge is known or unknown, we have the team with the skills and tools at hand to identify it and determine how it needs to be solved. – Now what's the modern part?

• We do the mapping in a matter of days instead of weeks or months, making sure that the customer is not left in a consultancy hour loop for an indefinite amount of time... After the mapping has been done, we will make a solution concept and provide our answer for the challenge in a clearly written out format, which anyone can understand.
• We think in capabilities instead of features. Every business challenge can be solved with a capability, but not a feature. – I will delve deeper into this concept of thinking in capabilities in future posts. 😉

2. Having the best tools and team to solve the challenge(s). Our solutions are either quick fixes to solve an urgent need or strategic choices for the long run. Our team is one of the most experienced in the Nordics with the Mendix low-code platform and handles multiple traditional coding languages accelerating the development with AI tools. – The modern part, you might ask?

• Firstly, Mendix and AI acceleration. We embrace the new tools and their might, instead of trying to make do with the same methods and tools that have been used in software development for years. – I will tell you more about the tools in posts further down the road.
• Second, the speed. Our projects should never last more than six months. If they do, there are probably still too many unknowns in the mix, which means we have to dig deeper before starting.

We select our tools based on the specific situation. For strategic needs, we opt for different tools than we do for quick fixes. The central principle is always the same: to effectively address the business challenges of our customers.
